Cookie Policy

1. About This Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how August Legal Technologies, Inc. ("the Company," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on augustlaw.org (the "Site"). It supplements our Privacy Policy. The August document workbench itself - accessed by subscribing law firms - operates in a separate, authenticated environment and is governed by the subscription agreement for those firms.

2. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow us to recognize your device, store preferences, and measure how the marketing site is used. We also use related browser storage technologies, such as localStorage, for session-level state (for example, recording that you have acknowledged this notice).

3. How We Use Cookies on This Site

Category What it does Lifetime
Strictly necessary Session state, CSRF token, cookie-notice acknowledgement (localStorage) Session to 12 months
Preferences Any UI preference you set on the Site (e.g., navigation state) Up to 12 months
Analytics Anonymized page-view and traffic measurement (self-hosted, no cross-site tracking) Up to 13 months
Marketing Not currently used on this Site n/a

We do not use any marketing or behavioral-advertising cookies on this Site. Analytics data is aggregate and anonymized and is never combined with the confidential precedent documents uploaded by subscribing law firms.

4. Notice and Choice

Because this is a US-based site operating under a notice-only model, cookies that help us operate the Site and measure aggregate traffic may run on page load. A notice banner appears on your first visit; acknowledging it records your dismissal in localStorage so the banner does not reappear for six months. You may reopen your options at any time via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.

5. Universal Opt-Out Signals

Where applicable state law requires - including under California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, and Oregon privacy statutes - we honor browser-transmitted opt-out signals such as the Global Privacy Control ("GPC") for sale and targeted-advertising categories. Because we do not sell personal information or serve targeted advertising, GPC suppresses only analytics initialization on this Site.

6. Third-Party Cookies

Any cookies set by our analytics provider are governed by a data processing agreement that prohibits that provider from using traffic data for its own purposes or building cross-site profiles. No social or advertising network cookies are present on this Site.

7. Managing Cookies

  • Use the cookie notice banner or the "Cookie preferences" footer link to opt out of analytics cookies at any time.
  • Your browser settings allow you to block or delete all cookies from this Site; see aboutcookies.org for instructions by browser.
  • Blocking strictly-necessary cookies may affect navigation on this Site but will not affect your ability to contact us.

8. Changes and Contact

We may update this policy when we change the analytics vendor or add new cookie categories. The "Last updated" date will reflect any such change. Questions about cookies or tracking can be directed to:
